No Hate Embassy: Fellowship to combat hate speech in the Euromed region kicked-off in Italy (24-31 May 2025)

From May 24 to May 31, 2024, the picturesque town of Filadelfia, Italy, served as the backdrop for the kickoff training of the No Hate Embassy Fellowship. This immersive event gathered fellows and national coordinators from six countries - Romania, Italy, France, Morocco, Tunisia, and Egypt - creating a vibrant cross-cultural collaboration and dialogue.

The primary objective of this kickoff training was to foster connection among participants and encourage them to reflect on their identities and the harsh realities of hate speech within their respective national contexts. Using the Manual for Civil Society Organizations. Guidelines on addressing hate speech and the Advanced guide to analysing a case of hate speech proposed by the Council of Europe, fellows unpacked the complexities of hate speech as it relates to their regions.

Participants also engaged with the GAMMMA+ model, a strategic tool designed to assist in planning effective digital campaigns that bring counter narratives. This hands-on approach equipped the fellows with the necessary skills to address hate speech narratives and promote positive change within their communities.

The training set the stage for the No Hate Embassy (NHE) campaign, which is scheduled to launch on June 18, 2025, coinciding with the International Day Against Hate Speech. This campaign aims to counteract various forms of hate speech across the participating countries by developing counternarratives and organizing on-site events to engage local stakeholders.

The kickoff training in Filadelfia marked the beginning of an exciting journey for the fellows of the No Hate Embassy Fellowship. With a focus on collaboration, reflection, and action, this program aims to equip young leaders with the tools they need to combat hate speech and foster a culture of tolerance and inclusion across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
