Foreign languages – an advantage when applying for a job

In the 21st century knowing English has become something usual. Wherever you decide to go, you can be sure that if you have medium knowledge of English language, you will handle it out somehow. 

But what if you go further? What if you discover that your inner passion can take you deeper and you start developing your sensitivity for learning foreign languages?

Well then, my friend, you have to consider yourself nothing more than a very lucky and gifted person, and you should not waste more time and take advantage of your appeal for foreign languages! 

Language is known as being a bridge between cultures and this is the reason why, foreign languages skills have become really appreciated and, in some situations, mandatory, in specific domains of activity. Moreover, learning a foreign language helps you grow not only professional, but also at personal level, because as one said

"The limits of my language are the limits of my world.”

1. The Free Dictionary

Multilingual free online dictionary is a useful resource if you are looking not only for the meaning of a word, but also synonyms, translation in other languages, examples of how to use the word in a sentence.

How to use it?

Step 1: Enter the website: http://www.thefreedictionary.com/

Step 2: Write in the Search field the word that you are looking for.

For example, I introduced the word „Ausbildung” (german word) means Education.

And, here it is! The explanation of the word!
On this website, you can also do other things, such as exercising your spelling skills

In the right part of the page, you can find the Spelling Bee. Click on the symbol next to the explanation of the world and try to write the word that you have heard in the field.

2.       Or, if you get bored, you can play Hangman :) 

2. Livemocha - the world’s largest online language learning community

Since launching in 2007, the Livemocha community has grown to over 16 million members. Its main purpose is to create a world full of multilingual individuals. If you are interested in language learning and you prefer interaction with native language speakers from around the world, Livemocha will be a great place for you.

  Choose one of the 3 sections:

• Learn – here you have access to learning materials for 35 foreign languages
• Join – create an account here and start interracting with people all over the world. You have the chance not only to improve your language skills, but also to learn new things regarding different cultures.
• Explore – join the Livemocha community!

A plus of this website that I have found really useful is Exercise Submissions page.

Here you can write a text or record yourself while speaking and you will receive feedback from a native speaker.
