Young people from six countries (Romania, Lithuania, Greece, Hungary, France, and the Netherlands) gathered in Vilnius, Lithuania, between the 30th of August and the 5th of September for the Youth for Water and Climate Programme, Phase II!
The Youth for Water and Climate program represents a unique opportunity for young people to gain key skills in the field of water and climate. During the week, participants had the opportunity to experience non-formal education activities, connect with nature, engage with their culture and build connections with each other, embracing diversity. Some of the objectives of the youth exchange were:
- Raising youths' awareness of the importance of knowing, preserving and promoting water and its significance. The best way to summarize this is with a quote presented during one session of the program: "Water is the reason we are all alive; it teaches me about my own humanness, about people, communities, life, sadness, and happiness. I express my gratitude to water."- Sherine ElWattar.
Equipping youth with leadership skills to initiate and make changes in the water sector.
These objectives were achieved through various non-formal activities such as:
Pitching water-related business ideas and raising awareness.
Creating water-related posters and participating in a parade.
Building bridges out of paper.
Visiting the town's water storage facilities and parks, learning about their history and the fact that Lithuania sources its potable water entirely from groundwater.
What did the participants think?
“The highlight of this program was, without a doubt, the incredible young people I had the honor of meeting. Their passion, diverse backgrounds, and kindness have truly inspired me to push forward and continue striving for positive environmental impact.”
“The best part? Building connections with participants from around the world and exchanging knowledge with experts in the field. It was an inspiring week of growth, collaboration, and shared insights!”
