GEYC joins DEMPOD: Democratic Participation and Civic Engagement for young people in the Balkans through podcasts and vidcasts


GEYC joined "DEMPOD: Democratic Participation and Civic Engagement for young people in the Balkans through podcasts and vidcasts" Erasmus+ Virtual Exchange Project, led by Action Synergy (Greece), in partnership with BRAVO (Bosnia Herzegovina), Prona (Montenegro) and Together for Life (Albania). The project wants to tackle three challenges we face nowadays: low level of political participation, low media literacy and low representation of the youth situation in the media.

Project aim 
  • To empower disadvantaged youth to use podcasts as a tool in their local contexts in order to increase their civic engagement and their participation in the democratic life.
Project objectives
  • To build the capacity of youth workers and youth organisations to use podcasts as a tool in order to increase the civic engagement of their target groups
  • To increase the participation of young people as agents of change in civil society through creation and dissemination of podcasts.
  • To augment the use of podcast spaces for communicating the voice of young men and women as agents of change in civil society at community, regional, national and international levels through podcasts
Target groups
  • Trainers/Facilitators/Youth workers that are working with young people with fewer opportunities and in post-conflict situations
  • Young people that are affected by conflict
  • In order to ensure the dissemination and sustainability of the project, the project is going to include also as target groups local authorities, NGOs and media organisations.
Expected outcomes
  • Needs analysis among youth in partner countries
  • A collection of best practices, to showcase the effective use of podcasts and other innovative methods for democracy
  • Methodology, curriculum and lesson plans about podcasts and vidcasts as educational materials to increase participation, translated in national languages of partner countries
  • Development of e-learning platform
  • 12 webinars for 200 youths on podcasting
  • 5-day online Podcast Festival, gathering 1000 participants and including podcast contests, live discussions between young podcasters, debates on the content of podcasts, masterclasses, workshops, pitching podcast ideas to professionals
