The "DisinformACTION!" project was born from the urgent need to address two
intertwined global challenges: climate change and the rampant spread of online
disinformation. Each year, the dire consequences of climate change become more
apparent, necessitating immediate and effective action. Concurrently, the
proliferation of misinformation on digital platforms undermines these efforts,
making it crucial to equip young people with the skills to discern truth from
falsehood.
Implemented by four organizations—RESOPA (France), MiHi Latvia, GEYC
(Romania), and EuroMuévete (Spain)—the project focused on enhancing students'
media literacy and training teachers to counter climate change disinformation.
The objectives included increasing students' ability to identify false
information about climate change, empowering them with democratic and digital
tools for active participation, and fostering cross-border cooperation and
best practices exchange.
Key activities involved developing the Climate Change Ambassadors Methodology,
conducting school workshops to impart media literacy and e-participation
skills to students, training teachers to apply the methodology, and
facilitating the exchange of best practices.
By recognizing the pivotal role of young people in shaping the future,
"DisinformACTION!" aimed to bridge the gap between online misinformation and
reality. The impact assessment served to evaluate both the effectiveness of
our initiatives and their broader implications. Our findings indicate
significant success in increasing media literacy, fostering democratic
engagement, and enhancing community involvement. This project has not only
countered climate change misinformation but also empowered a generation of
informed and engaged citizens committed to positive change.
