The wait is over. Today, September 14th, marks the official launch of the European Digital Citizenship Education Week 2026 (EDCEWeek). Coordinated by the PRISMA European Network, this pan-European campaign brings together educators, youth workers, NGOs, and citizens to champion digital rights, media literacy, and online safety.
We are incredibly proud to announce that the campaign kicks off with over 200 events already registered on our European Map of Activities, spanning across 18 countries. The movement is growing rapidly, and you can be a part of it. We invite you to discover the initiatives taking place by exploring our interactive map. A Special Message from Commissioner Glenn Micallef
To inaugurate this week of action, we are honored to present an official opening message from European Commissioner Glenn Micallef. With a strong commitment to youth policies and intergenerational fairness, Commissioner Micallef understands the profound challenges and opportunities presented by the digital transition. In his address, he highlights the absolute necessity of Digital Citizenship Education and the critical skills young people must develop to navigate and thrive in today's digital era safely and responsibly.
Digital Citizenship: The New Frontier of Democracy
Tomorrow, September 15th, the world celebrates the International Day of Democracy. The timing of our campaign launch is no coincidence.
There is a deep and undeniable correlation between the principles of democracy and the concepts of Digital Citizenship Education (DCE). In our modern society, civic engagement, public debate, and political participation have largely migrated to the digital space. Therefore, digital literacy is no longer just a technical requirement; it is a fundamental democratic right and responsibility. By educating young people to critically evaluate online information, combat disinformation, and respect digital rights, we are actively protecting and reinforcing democratic values in the digital sphere. True democracy today requires empowered digital citizens.

- European Impact Report: After completing your activities within EDCEWeek, you will be invited to complete an impact reporting form. The data collected will be synthesized into an official European Impact Report, which will be presented directly to European institutions to amplify the voices of your community.
