Wrapping up the KA2 project: Green Cities of YOUth

Between 28th of February 2022 and 27th of February 2024, the collaborative efforts of GEYC, Association Pokhara (Spain) and Aiforia (Germany) brought the project "Green Cities of YOUth: Increasing the role of young people in the development of sustainable cities" to a successful conclusion, contributing significantly to the key objectives outlined in the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. Addressing the SDGs 7, 11, 12, 13, and 15, the project focused on affordable and non-polluting energy, sustainable cities and communities, responsible production and consumption, climate action, and terrestrial ecosystems.

The primary objective of the project was to empower young people, particularly those with limited opportunities, by involving them in the environmental enhancement process within their localities. Employing environmental awareness as a catalyst for integrating this group, the project set out to make a lasting impact.

A comprehensive methodological guide was created to streamline the ecological transformation of towns or neighborhoods with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants throughout the European Union, actively involving young people in the process.

To achieve these ambitious goals, extensive preparation, training, awareness-raising, and implementation activities unfolded across the three partner towns: Freiburg, Germany; Bucharest, Romania and Ciudad Real, Spain.

The project's reach extended further through multiplier events held in each country, serving as a platform for disseminating the results and the methodology developed over the course of the initiative. This ensured a wider impact and greater visibility for the project's achievements.

A heartfelt acknowledgment goes out to the dedicated participants who brought this project to life, leaving an indelible mark on their communities. Their collective efforts have not only brought the "Green Cities of YOUth" project to realization, but have also made a substantial difference in growing sustainability and environmental consciousness.
