Call for 7 Romanian participants: European youth exchange in Turkey / August 2014

GEYC is selecting 6 Romanian participants and 1 group leader to take part in the "High Paw!" European project that will take place in Trabzon, Turkey, from 13th until 23rd of August 2014. This is a training course aimed to raise awareness on issues such as animal rights, animals living in streets, experiments on animals or animals torture.

About the project

The aim of this Youth Exchange project "High Paw!" is to raise awareness on animal rights, animals living in streets, animals being used in experiments or shows and animals being tortured. In this project, there will be brain storming acitivities, theatrical activities, colouring t-shirts activity, creating slogans and producing doghouses activities.  There will be social activities including cultural nights and city tour. All groups will be given the opportunity to introduce their culture, to meet other people with similar interests.  Thanks to the project and the application methods used participants will understand the importance and necessity of animal rights, in the long term, participants developing love, respect and understanding towards animals.

6 participants and 1 group leader.

    Timeline

  • until 20th of July - submitting the applications;
  • until 25th of July - selection of participants, notifications and confirmations (paying the participation fee - please notice that the participation fee is non-reimbursable);
  • after 22nd of August: organizers will arrange the travel details (please be ready to cover your travel costs: at the moment of the call, the cheaper return flight costs 250 EUR, however we expect a price increase of 20-30 EUR by the moment of purchase, feel free to check www.turkishairlines.com/en-tr for the current price level). GEYC will support you throughout the booking process and the reimbursement procedure; 
  • August, 13th-23th: the youth exchange takes place: enjoy Turkish culture, intercultural exchange and enhance your knowledge about animal rights.
  • after 23th of August: dissemination of results.


Target group
Young people over 18 years old interested about animals issues and cultural diversity.

 Selection criteria
  • Personal and professional motivation;
  • Gender balance;
  • Age: participants: 18-25 years old, group leader: no age limit (a priority will be given to under 30 years old applicants);
  • Good English level;
  • GEYC volunteers and GEYC Community applicants will have priority to participate;

Financial details

The organizers will cover the following costs with the support of the European Commission :
·         100% of meals, accommodation, activities costs;
·         Transport cost up to 170 euro per participant.

Participants will be required to cover:
  • a participation fee covering administrative costs for this project (the fee will be paid in RON, by bank transfer at the exchange rate given by the Romanian National Bank (BNR) for the day of payment; the fee will be paid after the participants are selected. Please don't pay any fee before you receive the confirmation e-mail): 30 EUR for GEYC Community (please note that for this call we will consider the members that joined the Community before July 12th, 2014) applicants and 50 EUR for other applicants (GEYC active volunteers are not required to pay the participation fee);
  • medical insurance (mandatory);
  • extra cost for transport (the amount exceeding 170 EUR);
  • (if needed) any other personal costs;

Relevant information 
  • In order to travel to Turkey, Romanian participants should own a valid passport for at least 6 more months after the return.
  • Romanian participants could only have the travel reimbursed if they start their itinerary in Romania;
  • Arrangements regarding medical insurance are the responsibility of the participants;
